Who are we?
The Superfast North Yorkshire (SFNY) project is a partnership between NYnet, a North Yorkshire Council-owned broadband company, and internet service providers Openreach and Quickline Communications.
The initiative aims to deliver next generation superfast broadband to everyone in the North Yorkshire area, and also brings together other initiatives to address rural access to better internet connectivity, where the fibre based coverage is not available (the so called “not spots”). Phases 1 to 4 of the programme have now been completed. Any premises not connected are in scope for Project Gigabit, which is run by Central Government.
The SFNY project is managed by NYnet and was financed by a mixture of funds from Central Government (via Building Digital UK-BDUK), Europe and North Yorkshire Council.
NYnet manage the Superfast North Yorkshire project on behalf of North Yorkshire Council. The broadband company is 100% owned by the Council, with all profits returned to the Council to help fund frontline services.
NYnet Limited was established by the Council in 2007, with the aim to improve connectivity and broadband services across the North of England for both the Public and Private Sectors, delivering WAN connectivity and broadband services to over 900 Public and Private Sector sites through a resilient 10Gbs fibre network.
